Some early 1903 utilized a bolt stop. It was located at the rear of the magazine opening. The bolt stop assembly is installed by inserting the pin and seat spring in its pocket in the receiver. Early bolts have bolt stop pin notches. When the rifles muzzle is pointed to the ground, the bolts notch will catch on the bolt stop assembly's pin.

Recently picked up a 1903 that had some work done. The bolt had been polished but was original to the gun the bolt stop was wore down and this went right in and worked perfect.
