Overall Excellent, But...

I have this stock for about a year now. First let me say, it's a very nicely built, historically accurate folding stock. It fits to my new production Inland M1 perfectly, giving the gun an entirely different character as well as making it much shorter.
But it does a deficiency in how the folding stock operates. I've studied photos of the original issue Paratrooper stock and there are parts differences.
In this model, a compression spring is located inside the pistol grip with the hinge rod running from top to bottom. The amount of tension to regulate stock unlocking is adjusted by screwing this rod further into the sling plate at the very bottom of the steel grip cap assembly.
With this model there is excessive movement of the open or folded stock due to the sling place not being fixed to the base cap, which is in turn fastened to the wooden grip. In the original these two parts have an alignment PIN which is not present on this stock. Thus, despite the amount of tension, the sling plate will shift back and forth as the stock is opened and closed. Additionally, the hinge rod and compression spring allow sufficient "play" inside the grip tunnel, to allow the base cap to rotate around the single mounting screw, further exacerbating the problem. Thus, when extended, the stock will "flop" about an inch side-to-side.
The original stock shows a short length of tube inside the grip tunnel which serves two functions: Create a set "tension" length on the compression spring, and act as a positive anchor point for the base cap to eliminate movement. This is not present in this model of the stock. It appears a larger diameter spring is used to "kind of" serve both functions but in this regard it comes up lacking. The right answer to fixing this is to either order an original spring and "sleeve" to eliminate plat, plus drill and pin the sling plate to the base cap. Another interesting "quick fix" is to wrap the hinge rod with painters tape.

Got it at the discount price with free shipping so I can't complain too much. Couple shipping dings on the wood no biggie. However the manufacturer did a substandard job prepping the stock for finish. Chatter and machine marks that should have been sanded out.

Just received the stock today, CHRISTMAS IN OCT!! It dropped right in, got it on sale, no shipping, GREAT DEAL, been waiting for something like this. The ONLY thing I don't like about it is the little gold sticker on the grip that says "made in Taiwan". But kudos, Sarco, for giving us this good deal
