GREAT pistol...after its broken in
Casual Shooter (Midwest) 2/10/2017 11:49 PM
I bought three of these in the same order in August 2016. I've only fired one of them. The other two are still in the box. One nice thing about Sarco is that when possible they will pull guns with consecutive serial numbers if you're buying the same model. The RIA compact is a nice shooting pistol. It shoots where the sights point, and the beavertail safety makes the pistol comfortable. It certainly has more recoil than a standard 5" 1911 but it's not unpleasant by any means. The RIA warranty card that comes in the case CLEARLY says that these pistols need a 500 round break-in period. From everything I've seen with this pistol, that's the case. I am at about 700-800 rounds through this pistol, and now it runs like a Singer sewing machine. No FTF or FTE. And that's with dirty, reloaded cases pushing dirty powder and my own cast bullets. BUT... It needed every bit of that break-in period. In the first 500 rounds, I had a LOT of FTE's, jams, stovepipes, etc. Keep in mind, this was with my reloads. I've never run factory 230g hardball through it, which is exactly what it was designed for. I've taken it apart and cleaned it many times (a simple process, by the way). Now, 700 or so rounds after starting with it, I'm super happy. I take it to the range, and I run mag after mag though it as fast as I can, with no problems. But it took a while. Fit and finish on the pistol are excellent. It looks great. Shoots great. Absolutely, positively buy one. Just know that there is a break in period, and expect to take it past that before you stop getting difficulties with it. Will I use it for CCW? I already do.
